DAPP Namibia grew out of the anti-apartheid movement and started development activities in Namibia in 1990, based in Omusati Region. Before that time the Development Aid from People to People in Denmark had supported Namibians in refugee camps in Angola with practical humanitarian assistance. Several Namibians were also offered scholarships and studied various vocational skills at private schools linked to DAPP in Denmark before Independence.
DAPP’s first direct activities in Namibia were to conduct tree-planting actions in the Omusati region together with war veterans and families and to provide affordable and good quality second-hand clothes to many people as well as to create an income for other development activities through the DAPP Shops and Sorting Centres. In 1996 the DAPP Vocational Training School, situated in the Omusati Region, was inaugurated. The DAPP Kindergarten and the DAPP Nursery were also established at the same location. Since then the DAPP Namibia has expanded activities within Health, Education and Community Development including Climate Change Actions to many more regions of the country.
