Backyard Gardening in Omusati and Kavango West

With support from Capricorn Foundation, DAPP Namibia has commenced implementation of the “Backyard Gardening in Omusati and Kavango West” project.

Launched in October 2026, the 12-month project aims to improve food security, nutrition and climate resilience by supporting 300 vulnerable households, 150 in each region.
Building on a partnership dating back to 2024, the initiative will establish new backyard gardens while strengthening those supported through previous interventions.
As the first month draws to a close, project teams have been actively mobilising communities, introducing the initiative and identifying potential beneficiaries. The encouraging response from community members reflects their eagerness to improve household food production.
DAPP sincerely thanks Capricorn Foundation for its continued trust and investment in empowering vulnerable communities. Together, we are strengthening livelihoods, building resilience and creating lasting change.

Social Contracting Pilot Project with the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS)

Social Contracting pilot Project with the Ministry of Health and Social Services MoHSSIn partnership with MoHSS, DAPP Namibia implemented a six-month malaria pilot project in the Zambezi Region under the Social Contracting model with good results. Under this agreement, DAPP Namibia deployed 12 Community Health Workers (CHWs) in clinic catchment areas with high malaria cases. They provided testing and treatment for uncomplicated malaria and referred children under five and pregnant women to health facilities. The CHWs also did community education on malaria, assisting MoHSS to engage people in communities in the fight against malaria.

The British High Commission Supported Food Security, Nutrition and Climate Resilience

The British High Commission supported Food Security Nutrition and Climate ResillienceThe Community Nutrition Garden Project aimed to improve food security, nutrition and climate resilience in Ohainengena Village, Ohangwena Region. Implemented by DAPP Namibia with support from UK International Development (British High Commission), the project reached 68 beneficiaries. 45 nutrition plots were established in a 0.5-hectare garden, supported by climate-smart training and infrastructure, including fencing, a solar-powered water pump and water tank. Beneficiaries have been empowered to apply garden practices at household level, reduce reliance on market purchases and generate income, strengthening resilience in the face of climate variability.

Community Garden Development with Czech Aid Support

Community Garden Development with Czech Aid SupportDAPP Namibia, with support from Czech Aid, started a community garden with neighbours around the DAPP Centre at Ombalantu. The support included fencing one hectare, building two latrines, installing a water tank with piping and taps, as well as establishing a nursery to produce seedlings for continuous tree planting both in the community garden and at homesteads. 40 community members joined; each was allocated a seed bed, and another area was designated for shared crop production. Local traditional leaders provided valuable support to the project and helped guide its sustainability.

Community Leadership in Action

Community Leadership in ActionDAPP Namibia’s Nutrition and Backyard Gardening Project worked with local leaders to make sure no one is left behind. In 2025, the project expanded from Anamulenge and Ogongo into the Outapi Constituency. Because local support is key, an in-person meeting was held to plan this move. Development committee members Aipinge Timoteus and Tt Shinyata Johannes supported starting in Omakuku A, Omakuku B, and Okahwa Kangamba. By working with leaders and youth, DAPP Namibia, the World Food Programme, and the Capricorn Foundation ensured the gardens belong to the community.
